CASE STUDY 3: Concept Sketch by Yann Leroy (@Yann.Leroy)

Project Summary
The third project features a highly expressive architectural sketch by Yann Leroy, whose work blends loose illustration with strong compositional intent. The hand sketch contained enough information to express mood, scale, and massing, but needed spatial refinement for a 3D environment.
Process
• Using the sketch as a reference, a full massing model was constructed in SketchUp.
• Line weight, shading intent, and perspective were carefully interpreted to maintain the artist’s style.
• In Lumion, textures, lighting direction, reflections, and landscape elements were layered in to recreate the atmosphere suggested by the sketch.
• The final result balances realism with the expressive qualities of the original drawing.
Outcome
This case highlights the ability to translate expressive artistic sketches—often more abstract than technical—into believable visual representations. The workflow bridges two artistic worlds: hand-drawn conceptualization and digital photorealism.
